One of the most powerful (and requested) features of DeadPixel Studio is the ability to mix multiple color palettes within a single artwork. We call this Smart Palette Swapping.

Whether you want to create a smooth gradient from specific Neon to Sunset colors, or you simply changed your mind about the red color halfway through a render, DeadPixel now supports seamless color changes that don't ruin your carefully generated patterns.

🚀 New Feature Alert

Export History Tracking: When you export to 4K or 8K, DeadPixel now remembers exactly when you switched colors during your session. Your high-resolution export will perfectly match the mixed colors on your screen, down to the exact frame.

Two Ways to Sway Colors

Depending on whether the simulation is running or paused, the color switcher behaves differently to give you maximum creative control. For deep customization, check the Complete Manual.

🟢 Live Mixing

Status: Running

Change the palette while the art is generating to blend colors. The existing lines stay on the canvas, while new lines use the new colors.

Perfect for: Rainbow effects, gradients, and chaotic mixes.

⏸️ Deterministic Editing

Status: Paused

Change the palette while paused to instantly repaint the entire artwork. The engine replays your work from the start with the new colors, but keeps the exact same shape.

Perfect for: Fixing mistakes or testing different vibes.

How to Create a Mixed Masterpiece

Follow these steps to create a multi-palette composition. If you're new to this, read Generative Art 101 first.

  1. Start Simple: Begin with a base palette (e.g., Neon Cyber). Let the simulation run for a few seconds to establish the base structure.
  2. Switch Mid-Stream: While the particles are moving, switch to a contrasting palette (e.g., Ocean Blue). You will see the new lines seamlessly merge with the old ones.
  3. Layer It Up: Repeat this process 3-4 times. Try switching between light and dark palettes for depth (requires switching Background Color first, which resets the canvas—so stick to palettes within the same background mode for mixing!).
  4. Pause & Review: Hit pause. If you don't like the very last layer, you can only change it via "Repaint" (which changes the whole thing). So mixing is a "performative" art—you do it live!

Technical Magic: How Export Works

You might wonder: "If I mix colors randomly for 10 minutes, how does the 8K export know what I did?"

DeadPixel uses a new History Recorder system. Every time you touch the palette selector, we record the Frame Number and the New Mode. When you click Export:

Troubleshooting

"The shape changed when I exported!"
This should be impossible with the new update. Ensure you are using the latest version of the app (refresh your browser). If it persists, try pausing before adding to cart.

"Can I undo a color mix?"
Currently, there is no "Undo" for live mixing because the ink is already dry on the canvas. If you want to start over with the same shape, hit Pause, then change the palette. This will wipe the canvas and let you see the shape in a single, clean color.
